about spreti
Passionate about the world of wine and dedicated to promoting its excellence, I have made it my mission to connect wineries
with their enthusiasts. With a solid background as a certified sommelier and 15 years of experience as a wine buyer in the
retail industry, I possess a deep understanding of wine selection, market dynamics, and consumer preferences.
Since 2013, I have served as a wine judge across the USA and Europe—an experience that has refined my palate and
broadened my knowledge of global wine trends. From 2017 to 2024, I was Chief Judge at the prestigious Pacific Rim Wine
Competition. In 2021, I made history as the first woman and Latina Chairperson of the oldest wine competition in the United
States, the Los Angeles International Wine Competition, underscoring my commitment to fostering diversity and promoting
excellence within the industry. Now solely focused on the LA International Wine Competition, I oversee its operations by
vetting judges, coordinating events, marketing the competition and maintaining the highest standards of integrity and
professionalism. I also coordinate the educators, teach and emcee the wine classes associated with the competition, to
promote winning wines to the public. We successfully showcase wines to over 750,000 people who come through our
marketplace.
Additionally, since 2014, I have been part of the wine team created by celebrity chef Charlie Palmer for Pigs & Pinot Wine and
Food in Healdsburg, California—an annual celebration of Pinot Noir and gourmet cuisine featuring over 60 wines, top-tier
chefs, and a whole pig Iron Chef-style competition. Working initially alongside Daryl Groom (Penfolds, Naked Wines) and now
Bob Cabral (Williams Seylem, Bob Cabral Wines), I assist with wine coordination and emcee the Gala Rooftop dinner,
showcasing the best of wine and food pairings for an audience of enthusiasts and professionals. Proceeds from Pigs & Pinot
benefit various educational and arts programs, including scholarships for culinary and wine studies.
I also collaborate with importers—such as La Competencia Imports—to promote wines of Mexico through highly successful
events designed for both wine professionals and the public alike, broadening appreciation for global wine offerings. To further
amplify the reach of wine competitions and events, I engage in online marketing initiatives, leveraging my expertise to create
compelling promotional materials and social media campaigns that help wineries gain visibility in a competitive market.
Within the vibrant wine scene of the greater Los Angeles area, I support both large and small production wineries, fostering
connections between winemakers and enthusiasts. Fluent in Spanish, English, and conversational French, I conduct marketing
work in multiple languages, broadening outreach and cultural engagement.
In November 2024, I was honored by Wine Business Monthly as one of its Wine Industry Leaders, recognizing my dedication
to advancing excellence, innovation, and inclusivity in the world of wine.
Let’s connect and explore how our shared passion for wine can continue to elevate and grow this dynamic industry. In short,

Here are a few tips for wine judges:
- Approach wine judging as a professional endeavor, as though you are applying to a new job. Don't just express
interest; articulate why you're the ideal candidate and how you'll contribute to the success of the competition
for wineries. - Align yourself with competitions that support your favorite wineries.
- Lead within the industry in your own unique way. Leadership manifests in various styles.
- If invited to join a competition, ask the chief/chair what you can do to further the mission.
- Utilize promotional materials from competitions and actively share them to amplify their reach, their success
means you get a spot, no winery entries, no need for judges. - Engage in marketing events associated with the competition to actively support wineries.
- Understand the purpose of wine competitions within the industry and actively contribute to fulfilling that
mission. - Leverage your social networks to promote the competition. Embrace your role as an ambassador, focusing on
promoting the competition's mission rather than just your role as a judge. - Use your time as a judge to not only evaluate wines but also to network and advocate for the wine industry as a
whole. Opportunities may arise from these connections, so let your talents naturally shine without overtly
seeking advancement. - If you're not invited back to judge, seek constructive feedback to improve. Sometimes, it's not about your
performance, but rather an opportunity to learn and grow.
